Organized and curated by KERNEL (Theodoros Giannakis, Petros Moris, Pegy Zali)

The “Contextual Playlist” is a new KERNEL’s version by Petros Moris in collaboration with Pegy Zali, created in the context of the project “The Instructional Capital”. The “Contextual Playlist” consists of an online video list dedicated to the ways that the cybernetic vision and the technology of the personal computer changed (and keeps on changing) the educational practices and systems. The version is accompanied by a physical construction that will be installed and presented in the exhibition “The Instructional Capital volume II” in Kappatos Gallery, Athens.

Thanks to the Greek open source community for embracing the project and helping with the construction.
KERNEL was presented and processed in KAM Workshop 2009 – SHELVES in Chania, Crete.
SHELVES investigated the materiality of the archive and the literal possibility for the construction of memory platforms through theory and practice.
Participants utilized the KERNEL platform to create new projects and KERNEL versions in the wider context of the workshop program.
Realized KERNEL versions:
-Versatile_-_platforms
-InfoBreak
-Server
-Server II
KERNEL will be presented and processed in KAM Workshop 2009, 17 – 27 August, Chania, Crete.
In this year’s “works on shelves”, KAM workshop will investigate the materiality of the archive and the literal possibility for the construction of memory platforms through theory and practice.
Participants are going to utilize the KERNEL platform to create new projects and KERNEL versions in the wider context of the workshop program.

The first KERNEL’s realization-activation will take place in ASFA factory Athens, Greece.
ASFA factory, Pireos Str 256
Athens, Greece
10 June 2009 5pm-8pm
11-12 June 2009, 10am-8pm
The construction consists of the following sections:

Platform: The platform’s basic design is extended and two steps are added for easier access.
Tower: Some of the tower’s parts are removed but all its functions are kept
-A PC will be placed on the “desk” for access to KERNEL’s forum and blog
-KERNEL’s materials-texts archive will be stored and exhibit
-KERNEL’s construction spare parts and tools will be stored in storage bins
Projection: The video tutorial “How to participate in KERNEL” will be projected. A small amphitheatre with approximately four to five seats is added as a platform’s extension. The projection’s screen will be installed on the towers back surface.
Workshop: KERNEL’s text form and KERNEL’s core designs will be printed and distributed. Visitors are welcomed to make proposals and modify KERNEL in-situ, using the working bench of the construction.
The workshop will take place in ASFA Athens, Greece in June 2009
You are welcomed to comment and suggest modifications and extensions to the proposal’s concept and construction.
